We love returning to the Moor of Ranoch hotel. Steph and Scott have created something exceptional here. The quality of the hospitality, the personal touches provided and 7 course mixed al-a-carte / tasting menu is to die for. Well worth the journey to the middle of nowhere. Won't wait so long to come back next time.

We were staying nearby so only visited for dinner one evening. What a fabulous menu with a great choice of wines. I could wax lyrical about the menu but that changes daily . It’s on the train line from Glasgow, stop at Rannoch. Make sure you stop off here for one night at least. So many hiking opportunities here …that’s if you need an excuse. Scot and Steph are fantastic hosts serving superb food

I rarely leave reviews but can’t not thank the lovely team for what was a truly unique, wonderful experience.
I dined alone with my dog and could not have felt more welcome. The environment is beautiful, the intimate drinks beforehand so cosy (with a brilliant old fashioned), and the personal service and storytelling a really special experience.
The food is incredible and a true labour of love. Low waste, locally foraged, highest quality ingredients, creative dishes and special touches - everything about the ethos of this place is just perfect. Plate after plate of thoughtful food - seven in total! - made with love. It’s less of a dinner and more of a food experience. Really special and great value for money. I'd recommend to anyone.

Lovely restaurant with rooms, really delightful all round. Attentive hosts who met us at the station unexpectedly, and provided tea and homemade biscuits whilst checking in.
The room was comfortable, with delicious treats including a dram and homemade chocolates which we enjoyed after dinner.
The menu was varied and interesting, with tasty and beautifully presented local food, including extra mini courses throughout the meal. We loved the self-serve cheese station with a nice choice of cheeses and accompaniments.
Breakfast was really high quality; the freshly squeezed juice was really appreciated, and the cooked breakfast was perfect, but other options available were very tempting.
The hosts offered really helpful and interesting information about the area, with great tips for walking, and they provided up to date weather information - always useful for walking in Scotland, especially when we had no signal. Dinner in the restaurant was very relaxed with no time pressure or dress code, and there was a choice of seating areas in which to enjoy a pre-dinner drink and choose from a good selection of games, jigsaws or books.
Thank you Scott and Steph, we had a lovely stay!

We only came for dinner, we did not stay in the rooms here but the place and location is gorgeous.
My partner and I have been lucky enough to travel to many countries and eat in some amazing places, but The Moor at Rannoch might be our new favourite restaurant (which was previously Poppy in Seattle WA, before it sadly closed). We booked dinner here for my partner's 40th and my gosh, everything was perfect. The location is incredible - views over the moor, deer and pheasants ambling up to the window infront which looks over the stunning Scottish sunsets. It feels you are dining at the end of the world, in a good way.
Scott and Steph could not have been more welcoming without being intrusive or fussy. From the welcome drink (an incredible array of Scottish twists on classic cocktails, the Negroni was especially enjoyed) and starting 'nibbles', which were not even part of the official tasting menu, each element of the night was special. The meals are curated depending on what is in season and who is dining (requirements requested at booking) - I won't list each course but my absolute favourite was the roasted artichoke with truffle brie and black garlic (though a close second was the dessert: brown sugar ice cream with carmelised breadcrumbs and blackcurrant leaf cordial). I'm not a huge artichoke fan but this dish was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted. A huge shoutout to 'yesterday's taco' aswell - best taco I have eaten, with a sourdough twist, and it ensure food is not wasted.
The atmosphere is lovely - fancy without being fussy (casual dress code, dogs welcome) and although each dish is served on beautiful and creative serving dishes, with a brief introduction to the flavours and inspiration, it did not feel pretentious at any point. If anything, the cost undersells how special this place really is.
If you are considering booking, don't even hesitate - this is an extremely wonderful piece of Scottish culture, remote, wild and wonderful!

We really loved this place, right next to the tiny Rannoch station and the loch. This family run B&B is cosy, the hosts are friendly, the room was beautifully decorated, comfy beds, lovely breakfast, and unexpectedly tasty and well presented dishes for dinner. We enjoyed also drinking one of the many whiskeys in the conservatory and looking at deer, which is everywhere. We’ll definitely come back.

Truly one of the most remarkable meals in our 5 years of nonstop global adventure. Flavourfully prepared. Authenticity with enough creative restraint to allow the locally sourced ingredients to shine. Steph is a chef who has the courage and talent to be true to herself, Bravo! Kudos to Scott’s front of house.
A few of my notes from last night’s meal:
Pumpkin Hummus, now this is what pumpkin actually tastes like!
Everything about this… stellar! Citrus and Riesling cured Monkfish, Smoked Crème Fraiche, Pickled Fennel, Chili, Ginger and Citrus Dressing -
Spiced Beetroot flavours subtle, yet immense impact. Hauntingly memorable.
Duck without the quack, tender and flavourful.
That REDUCTION on the slow roasted lamb, Wow!
Frozen Apple Martinis, just the right about of slush!
oh… that moist Chocolate Tart’s Lime Caramel and Esspresso Syrup
Pavlova was crisp, even on a rainy night!
Lanark Blue Errineton Cheese for the win!
